Ecosynapse : Pier 70
Pier 70 lays on the Eastern coast of San Francisco. The pier has a long history of industry and manufacturing which has greatly shaped the landscape. As the industry of ship building moves out of the bay the identity of Pier 70 is open to be designed as a new neighborhood for San Francisco.
Ecosynapse looks to redefine the industry of Pier 70 by continuing it's tradition of self-reliance and producing it's own power & water from elements present on site. The project rethinks traditional zoning & leasing structures to evolve at a pace set to the internet age, in order to develop a richly textured urban fabric.
Program Analysis
Strategy of Occupation: Programmatic Framework
The Programmatic Framework (PF) is a strategy which offers leasable space for periods ranging from five years to an hour. The strategy was developed in response to constraints placed on Port owned land which may only be leased up to five years to non-water related programs. The PF supports a rapid evolution of Pier 70's identity and makes the urban fabric accessible to small-timers looking for an office for a few months or a start-up unsure of next quarter's needs.

Performative Surface
The Performative Surface is a second skin over the site which is molded to harvest water and energy. The surface folds to: capture rainwater, face the sun, gather rays of energy, touch down at waters edge and create a playful landscape on the bay.
